Land in the UK in Dec 1980, I enter a bar on my base where I was stationed and this song was the first one I heard playing from a jukebox. Been a fan ever since.

I never figured Sting as a "C'mon, everybody, clap with me!" kinda guy.

I have always found Sting to be extremely underwhelming in live concerts. Stewart is extraordinary as ever and saves the show, but otherwise other 80s bands were much better on stage.

Not their best gig. Tempos too fast and rushed. The girls for some reason sound out of tune at times. Perhaps they had inadequate monitors. Roxanne is great.

I was 16 and could be biased but the Police and the 80s were magical haven’t seen/felt this since !!!

I hate paying to go to a concert and they don't sing the song just like it is on the recording. He chanted and mumbled a lot at the beginning of most of these songs. I feel like it's a big letdown not to hear it as he recorded it....

It seems sting made more money

They were all fantastic musicians. I'm glad I got to see the Police at the height of the band's fame. Rochester, NY, Summer of 1983 at now long demolished Aquinas (Hollander) Stadium. I remember winning tickets to the Synchronicity tour after naming the song question from a local radio station of the Hollies, "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother." Concert line-up - The Flock of Seagulls, The Fixx, and the Police. First song of the Police, "King Of Pain," Sting on Bass, a back-up musician on key boards behind him attempting to play the opening chords to King of Pain, but is doing the wrong chords.. Sting, quite irritated, walks back, bends over the keyboard and shows the player how to play the correct chords. Anyway, a fantastic outdoor, afternoon concert. But my one take away was that funny opening moment with "King Of Pain." 🙂

IMHO, this is when Sting had his very best bass tone. P-Bass played with a pick with some effects here and there. So much more interesting, punchier than the style he has been utilizing for awhile now. Always using his thumb and first couple of fingers...having a pretty dull, nondescript tone.

Lightning in a bottle. That’s describes the police, and all the bands and acts from the 1980s. We will never see it again. Sad, but I am glad I got to experience it as a young man in my 20s.
